How to Get a Job in 30 Days
No matter what time of year it is, it’s still a great time to continue your journey toward landing a dream job, so don't slow down your job search.
I am going to give you a high-level breakdown of how to land your next role in 30 days.
"30 days?”
Yes! You read that right, and you can land your next tech job in one month or less.
The process is no walk in the park. And it takes hard work, but several of my clients have done it, and if they can do it, so can you!
Here’s my 6-step process to getting a job in 30 days:
1. Pick a single target role.
You have to get clear on the next job you want. Hiring teams want to hire people who know what they want and have a clear goal. Applying to multiple different roles will weaken your career narrative and slow your understanding of the interview process. Get clear and focused on one role to speed up your results. If you're unsure what you want, talk to people in different positions and departments to figure out what they do.
2. Build a strong resume and LinkedIn profile.
These are your marketing materials and they need to convert to interviews. Ideally, it's clear who you are and what you do within seconds of reading your profile. If not, you are losing out on opportunities. Make sure you have a strong professional brand that is clear and pointing toward your target role. If you haven't gotten feedback on your resume or LI profile, it's worth paying a pro to look at it or use AI to build a resume in seconds.
3. Draft an email sequence campaign targeted at hiring managers.
In the first email write a summary pitch about yourself and why you're reaching out. Keep it concise and to the point, so people will actually read your email. Position yourself as someone who has relevant skills and is actively looking for new roles. If you don't hear back within 3-4 business days always send a follow-up. The riches are in the following up and most people don't do it enough.
4. Look for 30-50 new roles/hiring managers to prospect every week.
Prospect in high volume and fill your job pipeline non-stop until you have an offer in hand (pro tip: hire a VA to help you prospect). Don’t stop reaching out to new opportunities after getting a few interviews! It's the biggest trap I see job seekers fall into. If you are looking to land a role in 30 days, you must cast as wide a net and continuously interview. Keep your numbers high to compress your time to an offer. It is somewhat of a numbers game afterall.
5. Track all your job search activities and weekly progress.
Become more data-driven in your job search and analyze your outcomes. Then iterate and refine your approach based on data and feedback. Use a job tracking sheet to better analyze what's working and what part of your process needs improvement. Data-driven reflection is a valuable tool to employ throughout your job hunting process and will help you become a top candidate.
6. Master the interview process.
This is the bread-and-butter skill you must master if you want to land a job fast. This is why keeping your pipeline full of interviews is so valuable for your job search. Do lots and lots of interviews. Learn to build a compelling career narrative, ask strong questions, and never forget to send the always needed Thank You note. Learn to position yourself as a high-value candidate, and you'll be a step above the competition.
These are the steps to get you to the finish line faster. Not gonna lie, it takes focus, commitment, and consistent execution to get there.
But it's certainly possible. Following these steps to a T will propel you to a new job offer. I've seen people do it multiple times over.
Trust the process and believe in your abilities!
Bonus tip: Build your network. If you do this well enough throughout your career, jobs will come to you. The more effort you put into it, the more doors that will open for you in the long run.
Your dream role is closer than you realize! You’ve got this!
